Intermediate Football

Our intermediate team played their third championship tie against Kilmac last Friday night in Carrickbeg. We welcomed a number of players back since our heavy defeat to Tramore in the last round, & started the game well with the first score of the match being a goal from corner forward Mikey Halpin after some good forward play saw Tony Curry set him up in front of goal where he flicked to the net without gathering. Kilmac responded with two points shortly afterwards before a point from Mikey Halpin saw us two points up after about 10 minutes. It was tit for tat for the next few minutes as we added points from Brian Fogarty, Liam Walsh (Bally) & Stephen Power, but Kilmac were giving our backs lots of problems & when they score a soft goal from a long range effort that got lost in the sun, they pushed on to leave the half time score, Rathgormack 1-4, Kilmac 1-9. The vital third quarter when most matches are won was to prove disappointing for us as Kilmac took control & added further scores included a converted penalty to close out the game. Mikey Halpin did score a penalty for us with about 10 minutes to play to give us some hope of a comeback, after Tony Curry was pushed in the back, but a Donal Larkin point was our only other score of the second half, & the final score was Rathgormack 2-5, Kilmac 2-14.

Team: Shane Gough, John Crotty, Anthony Power, Muiris Quinlan, Liam Walsh (Mothel), Daniel Drohan, Robbie Flynn, Brian Fogarty (0-1), Steven Power (0-1), Donal Larkin (0-1), Liam Wash (Bally) (0-1), Tony Curry, Mikey Halpin (2-2), Vinny Murray, Kenny Hassett.

With two matches left to play, we are out of the running for qualification for the knockout stages, & with our next match in a fortnight against last years beaten county finalist De La Salle, on current form it would appear that our last match against Dunhill will decide who enters the relegation playoff. Here’s hoping all in the squad can put the shoulder to the wheel in the next few weeks to see us retain intermediate status for next year.

Senior Football

Our senior’s play their final league match at home to The Nire next Friday night & a win here could see us qualify for the league semi-final, depending on other results. Throw in is 7:30 PM.
