Senior Football

We had a lucky escape in our senior football relegation playoff against St. Saviours last Saturday night in Kilmac, in a match that finished level after 60 minutes. With St. Saviours missing 2 very late long range frees to secure a win, we got out of jail after a very poor performance. After 29 minutes, we led by 0-3 to 0-2, with each side scoring only one point from play each, Edmund Hogan launched a high ball into the St. Saviours square, which was dropped by their goalkeeper & ended up in the net. Saviours added a point in injury time to give us a flattering lead at the break, 1-3 to 0-3. Things didn’t get any better in the second half where we were making no in roads up front, & by the 39th minute it was all square. Both sides added 2 more points before the drama in the last few minutes. Final score, Rathgormack 1-5, St. Saviours 0-8. The replay is likely to go ahead next weekend but at the time of submitting the notes we have no official fixture. We will need a huge improvement, particularly in our forward play, if we are to come away with a win the next day. Team: Brendan Crotty, Mikey Crotty, Nigel Skehan, Kieran Fogarty, Jack Nugent, Jamie Kirwan, Mervyn Cummins, Ronan Cahill, Richie Power, Ronan Crotty, Paudie Whelan, Paul Drohan, Gavin Nugent, Edmund Hogan (1-5), Donal Larkin. Subs: Michael Curry for Paul Drohan, Tony Power for Mervyn Cummins, Anthony Power for Jack Nugent, Steven Kirwan for Donal Larkin.
