Junior Football

Our Junior’s easy first round championship victory over Tramore was a distant memory last Friday night, when we suffered a comprehensive defeat to Gaultier at home in our second game, a performance which surely makes the Gaultier men favourites to secure county honours. From the start we were on the back foot & Gaultier had the ball in the back of our net after 2 minutes. They added 3 more points before the 8th minute, before 2 points for us shortly after from John Kirwan (Cool) & Paddy Crotty, gave us some hope. However this was short lived as we failed to score for the rest of the half, with Gaultier adding a further 1-4 before half time, giving a half time score of Rathgormack 0-2, Gaultier 2-7. With only a slight breeze to our backs for the 2nd half we had a huge task ahead of us. A Johnny Quinlan point in the first minute of the 2nd half, followed by 2 more from John Kirwan (Cool) & Sean Lacey, gave us some hope but we failed to build on this, & the 8 point margin was as close as we got during the 2nd period to securing a win. We never looked like scoring the goals required to turn this game around & a disappointing performance led to a final score of Rathgormack 0-7, Gaultier 2-11. Team: Mark Kirwan, Conor Walsh, Steven Flynn, John Crotty, Pat Terry, John Kirwan (Bally), Muiris Quinlan, Johnny Quinlan (0-1), Steven Power, Sean Lacey (0-1), John Kirwan (Cool)(0-2), Donal Larkin, Darragh Kelly, Paddy Crotty (0-1), Kenny Hassett (0-1). Subs: Kieran Fogarty (0-1) for Pat Terry, Tony Bolger for Donal Larkin, Richie Lacey for Johnny Quinlan, Sean Cullen for Steven Flynn.

Senior Football

We played Ballinacourty in the Phelan Cup at home last Sunday morning. Two depleted teams served up a lively match which we won on a score line of 1-11 0-8. We started well & had 3 scores in the first 3 minutes with points from Gavin Nugent & Paul Drohan & a goal from Liam Walsh in between. Ballinacourty replied with 2 points before Paul Drohan added a pointed free in the 10th minute. Ballinacourty added the next 3 points before the 15th minute to leave the score 1-3 to 0-5, but 3 points in the last 10 minutes of the first half, 2 from John Kirwan (Cool) & 1 from Kevin Power gave us a half time lead of 1-6 to 0-5. We faced into the second half with the strong breeze at our backs & added 3 further points before the 43rd minute to give us a 7-point lead. We relaxed a bit in the final 10 minutes & Ballinacourty added 3 points as well as a number of wides, before Paul Drohan & Michael Curry finished our scoring to give us a 6 point victory. We play The Nire in the next round on Wednesday the 8th June in Ballymacarbry. Team: Eamonn Cahill, Michael Crotty, Tony Power, Gerard Kirwan, Michael Sexton, Nigel Skehan, Paul Shankey, Kevin Power, Edmund Hogan, Gavin Nugent, Liam Walsh, Paul Drohan, John Kirwan (Cool), Paudie Whelan, Michael Curry. Subs: Conor Walsh for Kevin Power, Donal Larkin for Liam Walsh.
