Club Notes - 2nd January 2012

posted Jan 1, 2012, 12:33 PM by Unknown user

Our annual AGM goes ahead on Saturday 7th January at 7:30 P.M. in the community centre in Rathgormack. We would appeal to all members & parents of all juvenile members to come along & voice their opinion on the past years activities, & more importantly have an input into the planning & organising of the club for the coming season.

Club Social

Our joint victory social with Clonea GAA Club to celebrate both U21 & junior county title success in both football & hurling, has been fixed for Saturday the 10th March at the Park Hotel in Dungarvan. Tickets are not yet on sale but will be organised in the coming weeks & details will be available in future notes or from any committee member of both clubs.

Bag Packing

Our annual Christmas bag packing fundraiser in Dunnes Stores, Oakville, Clonmel, was a tremendous success again this year. We had approx. 100 volunteers to man the tills right up to Christmas Eve, which resulted in between €5-€6,000 (still counting) being raised for the club. Well done to everyone who gave a few hours of their valuable time in the busy week leading up to Christmas, as without the numbers involved we would not have made as much. A particular thanks to the ladies of Comeragh Rangers Ladies Football Club who assisted us in this fundraiser.

St. Stephen’s Night

The fundraising social night for both Rathgormack & Clonea GAA juvenile clubs on St. Stephens night at the Carraig Hotel, was another huge success, with the venue packed to the rafters & the only disappointing thing being that many locals who had not pre-purchased tickets were turned away at the door. The club would like to sincerely thank Michael Hassett for taking it on myself to organise this night for both clubs.

Charity Match

Our annual charity match between married & single members of Rathgormack & Clonea GAA Clubs went ahead on St. Stephens’s day in Clonea. Before a handy sized crowd, the single men had the upper hand early on & scored a good goal involving a flowing movement involving a number of players. However, not to be outdone, the married men struck back just before half time when Gerdy Power finished a spectacular free kick to the top left hand corner, leaving the single men ahead 1-1 to 1-0 at half time. A few dubious changes by the married men management seemed to unsettle the team & after a very soft penalty was awarded & converted by the single men early in the second half, the floodgates opened & they scored a hatful of before the end of the match with no reply at the other end. This is the first victory for the single men since we started this venture 4 or 5 years ago, but the married men management inform me that they have several new recruits lined up to quieten the young boys next year. Thanks to everyone who turned out on the day as it raised a couple of hundred euros for both Rathgormack & Clonea juvenile clubs.
