New playing season starts up again

After a quite few months both on & off the field, the 2013 kicks back into action in the next fortnight. With all gradings, transfers & re-grades all now dealt with & championship structures agreed by the eastern & county board at both juvenile & adult level, fixtures are beginning to be issued in the last week. Our minors & U21’s have been training for sometime now & they will be first into early season championship action, weather permitting of course, as with ground conditions so saturated, one bad days rain could make pitches unplayable for a few days, a position that did not arise last year due to the exceptionally dry spring in 2012.

Minor Football

As reigning county ‘A’ champions for the first time in 77 years, this team will be the first into action next Sunday 3rd February, when we play host to Clashmore/Kinsalebeg at home in Ballinafina with a 12 PM throw in. We are again operating in the ‘A’ division along with Clashmore/Kinsalebeg, Gaultier, De La Salle, Dungarvan, Roanmore, The Nire, & Ballinacourty. A provisional list of all group fixtures has been issued but some of these may change due to clashes with the U21 championship, which is due to start soon & other events.

U21 Football

Again operating in the ‘A’ division, the lads start their championship on Saturday, 9th February (fixture to be confirmed), away to Ferrybank at 2PM. Kenny Hassett has taken over the coaching & managing of this team this year & they have a few weeks work under their belts already before the end of January.

Intermediate Football

Both Gaultier & we have entered the eastern intermediate football championship this year meaning there will be no eastern senior attached junior championship in 2013, which is no harm, as it had become a farcical arrangement over the last number of years. Stepping up to intermediate level will be a big challenge for this team but it will give a lot of our emerging minor & U21 players who are not making the senior team, a higher standard of football to prove themselves against. We have been grouped in a tough group with last years 2 eastern finalist with Dunhill, Kilmac,Bunmahon,Tramore, De La Salle. Fixtures are due to be issued in the next fortnight & this championship generally starts before the end of March.

Senior Football

Our senior management team has been finalised in recent weeks with Mervyn Cummins taking over as manager with Declan Power, Steven Flynn & Michael Cummins acting as selectors. The fixtures & grouping for the championship have not yet been issued but these should be finalised by the county board in the coming weeks. All in the club wish the team & management the best of luck for the coming season.

Adult Training

Training for all adult players commenced last Friday night & will continue every Friday, Sunday & Tuesday. If you haven’t been contacted to date, please come along & give the lads your mobile number so that you can be informed of any changes to the training schedule.

Medal Presentation

Our eastern & county title winning U13, U14 & minor teams of 2012 were presented with their medals last Saturday night at a function in Rathgormack Community Centre before a big crowd. The lads were presented with their medals by All-Ireland winning 2011 minor football captain, Bill Maher, from nearby Kilsheelan.
