Junior Football

We played Gaultier in the championship in Dunmore East last Saturday night. In difficult conditions following a day of heavy rain, the match was played with intermittent rain & with a strong wind blowing, leading to a scrappy & poor quality match. We played with the elements in the first half but failed to make use of them, & it was Gaultier who led throughout the half & who struck for a goal after about 15 minutes. We had a lot of good possession but couldn’t turn it into scores, & we had two good goal chances scrambled off the line to leave us frustrated. A long range Jason Curry free went straight to the net off a defenders hand just before half time to bring us back level & leave the score at the break, 1-2 apiece. The second half didn’t get any better with both teams failing to finish off good moves with any quality in front of goal, & as we entered the last five minutes, there had been no further score as the weather conditions deteriorated. Gaultier did add two points in the closing minutes to secure victory as we failed to score in the second half. Both teams will feel they can play a lot better, & it is possible that we will meet in the Eastern final later in the year. Final score Rathgormack 1-2, Gaultier 1-4.

Team: Eamonn Cahill, John Crotty, Johnny Kavanagh, Muiris Quinlan, Mickey Halpin, Conor Walsh, Jason Murray, Brian Fogarty, Paddy Crotty, Daniel Drohan, Sean Lacey, Jason Curry, Kenny Hassett, Franny Halpin, Steven Kirwan. Subs: Steven Power for Franny Halpin, Tony Curry for Steven Kirwan, Vinny Murray for Jason Murray.

Senior Football

Our league match away to Ballinacourty has been switched from Monday to Tuesday 26th June, with an 8PM throw in. We have no new fixture for our next championship match as no decision was taken at last weeks county board meeting. It is likely that it won’t be fixed until after the result of the Munster senior hurling final is known.
