Intermediate
Football
Our
intermediates had their first competitive match of the year in the intermediate
football eastern league last Sunday at home to Bonmahon. With both teams
fielding under strength, we started much the better but failed to make the most
of our domination of possession in the first 15 minutes, but still led 4 points
to 2 after the first quarter, despite kicking a number of bad wides. However in
the next 10 minutes, Bonmahon kicked 1-4 without reply as their more economic
use of possession played dividends. We replied with 3 John Kirwan (Cool) points
before the break to leave the halftime score Rathgormack 0-7, Bonmahon 1-6.
Bonmahon stretched out their lead as the 2nd half progressed, &
with 10 minutes remaining they held a comfortable 6-point advantage. With the
game entering injury time they were still 5 points up with no hint of a home
comeback but 2 points from Daniel Drohan & John Kirwan (Cool) in the 60th
& 62nd minute left a goal between the sides, & when John
Kirwan lobbed a free into the square a minute later, Seanie Lacey got a fist to
it & it finished in the net to give us an unlikely & possibly
undeserved draw when the final whistle blew with the kick out. Final score,
Rathgormack 1-12, Bonmahon 1-12. Team: Padraig Hunt, John Crotty, Anthony
Power, Liam Walsh (Mothel), Liam Walsh (Bally), Johnny Quinlan, Muiris Quinlan,
Tony Power, Seanie Lacey (1-2), Steven Kirwan (0-1), John Kirwan (Cool) (0-6), Daniel
Drohan (0-1), Mikey Halpin, Paudie Whelan (0-2), Donal Larkin. Subs: Steven
Power for Liam Walsh (Mothel), Tony Bolger for Liam Walsh (Bally).

next match is away to John Mitchels on Sunday 10th March.
