Minor Football

In our last championship match against Dungarvan last Tuesday, we secured a vital win to book our place in the county semi-final. The first half was very close, with Dungarvan edging the first quarter & leading by 0-6 to 0-3 after 20 minutes, with the Dungarvan full forward causing a lot of trouble. However, a William Hahessy goal for us in the 21st minute swung the match in our favour, & we added 4 more points before half time to lead 1-7 to 0-6 at the break. Dungarvan put us under a lot of pressure in the first 10 minutes of the second half, but had only a single point to show for it, as nothing went right for them in front of goal, with at least 2 goal chances going a begging. Our second goal by Gavin Nugent in the 44th minute put us 8 points to the good & in control, & we struck for a couple of more scores on the counterattack in the last 10 minutes, including a Kevin Dunne goal in the 57th minutes, to run out convincing winners, with a score line that flattered us slightly. Final score: Rathgormack 3-13, Dungarvan 0-9. This was a good all-round performance by this team, with the work rate & commitment to the tackle, particularly in the second half, being impressive. The semi-final has not yet been fixed but may go ahead in early May.

Team: Padraig Hunt, Johnny Nugent, Conor Hennebry, Quann Butler, Brendan Behan, Dean Kirwan, Jason Curry, Michael Curry, Connor Walsh, Tony Curry Gavin Nugent, William Hahessy, , Jonathon Flynn, Kevin Dunne, Aidan Flynn. Subs used: James Greene, Kevin Mulkearne.
