U21 Championship

The U21 team started the defence of the Eastern Championship last Friday night in Carriganore. We started well with Jason Curry opening the scoring. A further point was added by Michael Curry before Gaultier opened their account. From here we took control of the game with a fine solo run ending in a score from centre back Dean Kirwan. Gavin Nugent added two points before Conor Murray took a quick forty-five and ran on to a return pass to bury it to the net. We continued to dominate possession and further points from Conor Murray, Liam Mulligan, Willie Hahessy and Gavin Nugent who also added a second goal gave us a half time lead of 2-10 to 0-02. With such a commanding lead at half time it was always going to be the case that Gaultier would come back into it and this was the case. Two mins into the second half a long ball was pumped in which was fisted to the net. Six minutes later Gauliter got a second goal and by now the lead was down to 8 points. Our lads didn’t panic and scores from Jason Gleeson, Jason Curry steadied thing down. The scores were scarce for the rest of the game but with ten minutes to go a superbly worked goal ended when Gavin Nugent played the ball across to Conor Murray for his second and our third of the game. Conor Murray added a further point to bring his tally to 2-04 and the final score of the game was scored when substitute Daniel Crotty who was set up by another substitute Brian Connolly following a great team move. Overall this was a great team performance with no less than nine players getting on the score sheet. The lads now move on to play Tramore in the Eastern Semi final. There was also a first for the club was when Willie Hahessy fell foul of the new ‘Black Card’ rule in the second half.

U16 Championship

Our U16 team played their first championship game of the year last Sunday morning against St. Marys in Rathgormack. Conditions weren’t great but it turned out to be a very entertaining game. We started well and were 1-2 to no score up after 10 mins with the goal being scored by Peter Behan. St. Mary then came back into the game and at half time we led by 1-4 to 3 points. The second half was a bit scrappy and was low scoring. Halfway through the second half St. Marys were awarded a penalty when there was 4 points between the teams. However Ben Kennedy the Rathgormack goalkeeper made a terrific save from the resultant kick. The boys finished well with the pick of the remaining scores coming from a great point scored by Aaron Hassett and ran out winners by four points. Final score Rathgormnack 1-7 - St. Marys 0-4.
