Minor Football

Our minors won their last championship group match against Ballinacourty last Wednesday 16th May, on a score-line of 2-10 to 0-11 & therefore topped the group securing a place in the semi finals against the 4th placed team, Gaultier, on Saturday 19th May in Walsh Park. Against Gaultier, we played some good football & were on our way to victory after three first half goals, giving us a half time lead of 3-4 to 0-4. We built on this in the second half & ran out comfortable winners in the end on a score-line of Rathgormack 5-8, Gaultier 1-9.

Minor Football Div. 1 County Final

Hot on the heals of our semi-final victory over Gaultier last Saturday night, the county final goes ahead this Wednesday evening, 23rd May, at 7:30 PM in Walsh Park against Dungarvan, who defeated St. Patrick’s in the other semi-final. This is a great achievement for this talent bunch of players & it is our first minor division 1 final since 2001, when we lost out to Ballinacourty in a replay on the same day that our seniors lost out in our last county senior football final appearance, in a replay to Stradbally. We have had only two other appearance’s in a minor football division 1/”A” final & they were in 1997 when we lost to Ardmore, & our only successful final appearance which was way back in 1935, when we defeated Stradbally. It is unfortunate that this final is being played in mid-week, but as so many of the players will be involved in important Leaving Cert examinations in the next fortnight, the county board have decided to play it off to completion before the exams commence. Therefore it is very important that all our followers & supporters would come out & support this young team on their big day & hopefully if everything goes right, we might be celebrating a historic victory & our first minor ‘A’ title in 77 years.

U16 Football

Our U16’s had a 1 point win last Monday at home against The Nire, to top their group & qualify for the semi-finals. Final score was 3-12 to 3-11. The semi-final is due to be played on Monday 28th May, venue unknown, against either Brickey Rangers or The Nire.

Junior Football

Our juniors had a comfortable win away to St. Saviours in our first championship action last Friday night in Ballybeg. The match played in wet conditions was decided by half time when we led by 4-6 to 0-1 having played with the breeze in the first half. The second half was a pedestrian affair with the final score, Rathgormack 4-9, St. Saviours 1-1. Team: Eamonn Cahill, John Crotty, Johnny Kavanagh, Muiris Quinlan, Johnny Quinlan, Mervyn Cummins, Liam Walsh (B), Brian Fogarty, Steven Power, Mikey Halpin, Paddy Crotty, Daniel Drohan, Seanie Lacey, Franny Halpin, Steven Kirwan. Subs: Tony Bolger for Steven Power, Peter Foran for Franny Halpin, Sean Cullen for Johnny Quinlan, Vinny Murray for Mervyn Cummins.
