Minor Football

Our minors are away to Gaultier in the championship on Saturday 24th February at 12 noon. We have received a walkover from Clashmore in our first game that failed to go ahead.

U21 Football

Our U21 team qualified for the eastern final against Tramore last Saturday night underlights in Carrickbeg when they had a comprehensive win over De La Salle. This young Rathgormack team bossed this match from the start against a surprisingly lacklustre De La Salle outfit, who had easily disposed of reigning eastern champions Roanmore in the first round. The foundation of the victory was our total domination of possession in the middle third for the first 20 minutes, & with the breeze at our backs we had a regular supply of good direct ball into our dangerous full forward line, to allow us to race into a 9 point lead by the 19th minute. De La Salle did gain some foothold for the last 10 minutes of the half & were rewarded with 3 scored frees, but with the halftime score of 0-12 to 0-3, Rathgormack were well in control. De La Salle did up their performance for the start of the second half & they had the first score of the half with a point in the 38th minute, followed by a goal 2 minutes later, to bring them back to within 5 points. However they failed to get any closer even though our boys performance had slipped somewhat, & a consistently high work rate from a number of our players throughout the field saw us take control again in the final 10 minutes, when we shot four points without reply to win by 9 points on a score line of Rathgormack 0-18, De La Salle 1-6. Team Eamonn Cahill, Padraig Hunt, Billy Power, Liam Walsh (Mothel), Brendan Behan, Dean Kirwan, David Connolly, Conor Walsh (0-2), Michael Curry, Conor Hennebry, Liam Walsh (Bally), William Hahessy (0-1), Jason Gleeson (0-2), Gavin Nugent (0-11), Jason Curry (0-2). Subs: Tony Curry for Conor Hennebry, Kevin Dunne for Jason Gleeson.

We now play Tramore in the eastern final on Saturday 2nd March at time & venue to be decided.

Intermediate Football

Our new intermediate team play their first competitive match of the year next Saturday 23rd February, when they take on Bonmahon in Rathgormack, in the intermediate football eastern league, with a 2:00 PM throw –in. They will have a league match every weekend over the next six weeks, which brings them into the first championship match in mid April. This will ensure a very busy time for this team, which is in marked contrast to the last few years when they entered the senior attached junior grade, with only a couple of games throughout the whole year.

All club members are now reminded that this year’s membership is now due & should be played to any team manager, or to our new club registrar, Michael Crotty. The cost is the same as last year, €10 for all juveniles up to & including minors, €30 for U21’s & non-playing members, & €60 for adult playing members.

Juvenile indoor football

A reminder that indoor football returns for U6, U8 & U10’s this Wednesday 20th February & will continue every Wednesday until the end of March when we will move outside for the summer. We would ask that all players bring along their yearly membership fee & signed forms on our first night back. Times for the Wednesday night sessions are as follows:

U6 (born 2007 & 2008) -6-7 pm, U8( born 2005 & 2006 ) –7-7:45 pm, U10( born 2003 & 2004 ) –7:45-8:30 pm. The U6 session is for boys & girls, while all other sessions are for boys only.
