U14 Football

We had no joy in last Saturday’s division 2 county final in Walsh Park against The Nire when we were beaten by a better all round 15. We had a disastrous start when The Nire had the ball in the net in the first minute, & things got worse by the 10th minute when they scored 2 further goals to level us 9 points behind. We started to panic a bit around this time going for goals when easy points were on, but a Donnacha Hassett goal after 14 minutes gave renewed hope. By the 22nd minute we had added 3 points to bring us right back into it, then we were dealt another blow when The Nire had their 4th goal just before half time to leave the score Rathgormack 1-3, The Nire 4-0, at the break. We had a big task ahead but were not out of it. The first few minutes of the second half saw both teams kick 2 further points, but 4 minutes in The Nire kicked their 5th goal, & it looked like it wasn’t going to be our day. Between then & then end The Nire dominated the rest of the match, with their large mobile players the whole way up the middle being the difference. In fairness to our lads they kept battling away right to the final whistle, when the match finished Rathgormack 1-6, The Nire 6-6. Well done to all the team & management of Dinny Hassett & Declan Power for getting to the final, which will be good experience for the years ahead.

Team: Eoin Dowley, Robbie Nugent, Eoin Mulligan, Adam Kelly, Patrick Hahessy, Eoin Bray, Liam Connolly, Aaron Power Conor Dalton, Martin Power, Peter Behan, Stephen Curry, Aaron Hassett, Donnacha Hassett, Billy Power. Subs: Sam Corbett Barry for Liam Connolly.

Thanks also to all our juvenile players, U6-10, & parents who travelled to the match by bus to cheer on the lads. Hopefully in a few years time they will be togging out in Walsh Park or Fraher Field in a county final.

Senior Football

Last weeks first round Phelan Cup match against Ballinacourty was postponed due to our pitch being unplayable following torrential rain. This Wednesday night, 13th June, we play Ardmore in the league in Ardmore with an 8P.M. throw-in.

Speedy Recovery

All in the club would like to wish senior player & U6 coach Paul Power a speedy recovery follow a knee operation this week. Unfortunately, Paul severed his cruciate ligament in our great first round championship victory over Ballinacourty, & as a result he will miss the rest of the playing season. No doubt he will be back in the red & green jersey for the start of 2013.
