Senior Football

We played our second league match away to Ballinacourty last Tuesday, & after a low scoring affair lost out by a single point. We raced into an early lead with a goal by Paudie Whelan in the 2nd minute, & by the 12th minute were 5 ahead. Scores were scarce for the remainder of the half, & we led at half time 1-3 to 0-2. A goal & a point in the first 10 minutes of the second half brought Ballinacourty back level, & it was the 55th minute before they led for the first time with a point followed up with another one a minute later. Despite a Ronan Cahill point in the 58th minute we couldn’t close the gap with a few half chances going a begging at the end as we finished the match on the front foot. Final score, Rathgormack 1-5, Ballinacourty 1-6.

Team: Brendan Crotty, Gerard Kirwan,  Anthony Power, Mikey Crotty, Martin Whelan(0-1), Nigel Skehan, John Kirwan(B), Jamie Kirwan, Ronan Cahill(0-2), Paudie Whelan(1-0), Liam Walsh (0-1), John Kirwan(C), Paul Drohan (0-1), Mervyn Cummins, Darragh Kelly. Subs: Ronan Crotty for Darragh Kelly, Jack Nugent for Nigel Skehan, Jason Murray for John Kirwan (C ), Sean Lacey for Mervyn Cummins.

Minor Football

Our crucial last match against Dungarvan last Wednesday was postponed. It is possible that it will go ahead next weekend but there has been no fixture issued to date.

County Minors

3 of our upcoming stars will represent the club when Waterford play Kerry in the Munster Minor Championship in Tralee next Wednesday. Billy Power, Gavin Nugent & Michael Curry, have showed up well for both our minor & U21 teams so far this year, & now it is there chance to show what they can do at a higher level. Unfortunately for Billy, who was named captain of the team last week, he suffered a broken collarbone in the squads last training session last Sunday, & will be out of action for the immediate future. No doubt we will see him back in action as soon as is physically possible. All in the club would like to wish him a speedy recovery & the Waterford minor team & management the best of luck in the match.

U11 blitz

Our U11’s completed a series of weekly blitzes with a Gala day in Walsh Park recently, were they preformed very well & are showing great improvement with every outing. The club would to thank, all the parents who travelled to the blitzes on Sunday mornings, & for all the players for putting in such a good effort.
