Club Notes - 10th December 2012

posted Dec 9, 2012, 2:55 PM by Unknown user

Our Annual General Meeting went ahead last Saturday night, 8th December in front of a reasonable attendance. Chaired by our longstanding chairman, Noel Kirwan, everything ran smoothly & was concluded within 90 minutes. Noel outlined & reflected on the past season in his report & looked forward to 2013, congratulating our U13 & U14 teams on their championship success, & particularly our minor team after securing the minor football ’A’ title back in May for the first time in 77 years. Most of the existing officer’s, including the chairman, stayed on in their positions for the coming year, with Ger Kirwan stepping down as registrar & Tom Hassett stepping down as Deise Draw coordinator. Michael Crotty will take over the role as registrar for the coming year, & with no one prepared to take on the Deise draw coordinator at the meeting, it was decided to defer this appointment until the New Year. Our treasurers report showed the club in a healthy state following a number of successful fundraisers during the year, particularly our scrap metal collect in conjunction with Comeragh Rangers LFC. On the playing front, all juvenile managers have return to their positions, with Kenny Hassett taking over the U21 manager’s role. As Ger Power has stepped down as senior football manger after 3 years in charge, a sub-committee has been appointed to seek people interested in taking over this role for 2013. One of the talking points of the night, was the unanimous decision by the meeting for the club to enter the eastern intermediate championship next year with our second team moving up from junior. It was felt due to the very poor structure & organisation of the Eastern junior championship with only 3 teams involved last year, that our junior team was being failed by the eastern & county board & despite motions submitted over the last number of years requesting a change of championship structure for the betterment of all clubs, there has been no change. It remains to be seen if we will have the standard of player within our second team to successfully compete at intermediate level, but at least we will have a number of competitive & meaningful games for our players to actively prepare for.

Bag Packing

Another call out for our annual bag packing fundraiser in Dunnes Stores, Clonmel goes ahead from Friday 21st to Monday 24th December this year. We are recruiting people to give a few hours of their time for this important event that is key to the clubs financial stability each year. Anyone who is interested in helping out who has not been contacted can make contact with Kenny Hassett, John Crotty or Michael Crotty who are coordinating the event.
