Player Mental Health

posted Dec 8, 2016, 1:32 PM by Steinberger Nagao

The concept of mental health has become increasingly prevalent in the modern world and the gaa is no exception as more and more players have indicated  the difficulties they experience or have experienced mentally. The GAA has launched a campaign supporting the mental health of their members and have taken particular focus on the youthful players. #littlethings #gaahealth

U16 County Champions

Rathgormack are U16 Division 2 County Champions after defeating Tramore on Saturday last in Fraher Field on what were perfect conditions for football. The team started well and established a 4 point lead after 15 minutes. With some excellent scores taken. After 22 minutes it was 0-5 to 0-1 in Rathgormacks favour. In reality at this stage we should have been 7-8 points ahead if t not were for some poor shooting on our part. We were made to pay for our inaccuracy when Tramore clawed back our lead and lead by 1-3 to 5 points going in at half time. On the resumption of the second half disaster struck as Tramore raced into a 2-6 to 5 point lead after 35 minutes, but credit to our lads they didn’t panic and took they’re scores as the came available. Eoin Dowley fisted to the net after 50 minutes when a high looping ball came into the Tramore danger zone making it 1-8 to 2-6 with our defence outstanding when it really mattered. Within the next 6 minutes Rathgormack kicked on and scored a further 3 unanswered to make it 1-11 to 2-6 with full time approaching. It was nervy last 4 minutes or so as Tramore pushed for a goal but our defence held out to give a deserving victory to this young team. Huge credit must be given to this team for the character and pride they showed in both themselves and the red and green jersey as they clawed back a 7 point lead when throwing in the towel would have been the easier option. Well done lads. Team: Kieran Guiry, Kevin Hennebry, Tom Walsh, Donnacha Gough, Sean Hahessy, Kevin Connolly, Conor Power, Mairtin Power (C), Billy Power, Ben Kennedy, Sam Corbett-Barry, Gerry Nugent, Steven Curry, Ciaran Power, Eoin Dowley Aaron Gleeson, James Power, Mark Elliffe, Eoin Power, Finn Keating, Tom Bolger.

U10 Football

The boys performed very well & won all three games comfortably on a beautiful day for football. It is a busy time for this team in the next few months with the U9 & U10 mid county football games starting up on the first Wednesday in June, with U9 & U10 running on alternative weeks for eight weeks in total until the end of July.
